A message from GRANT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DISTRICT

Hello and good Sunday evening to everyone.  This is Mr. Freeman and I am emailing from Grant Elementary School with a look at an action-packed week coming up.  First, I want to thank everyone for a great first week of the school year and I especially want to give a shout out to my Student Council leaders for a great Bonding Day and Movie Night on Friday.  Okay, let’s start with tomorrow.  First off, we have the eclipse happening.  This is an amazing event to be a part of but I want to make sure that all of our students are safe.  There has been a lot of talk leading up to the eclipse of the potential for permanent eye damage if folks look at the solar eclipse without the proper eye protection.  In an effort to keep our students safe, our teachers will be either streaming the event live in their classrooms or helping the students to develop safe alternatives to view the eclipse, like pinhole projectors.  If students go outside for the event, they will be accompanied by their teacher.  The eclipse will impact our morning recess scheduling a little but it is a regular day so please send your student to school.  Tomorrow also happens to be Picture Day so we will be working with the classroom teachers to rearrange scheduling to accommodate the eclipse viewing.  Tomorrow’s classes for Picture Day will be grades 5, 6, and 8.  Tuesday will be 2, 3, and 7.  Wednesday will finish up with TK/K, 1, and 4.  Make up pictures will be on September 20th.  We also have a busy week with Fall Sports Tryouts happening.  4th-8th grade Cross Country will meet after school on Tuesday at the junior high picnic tables and practice will end at 4:30.  6th-8th grade co-ed soccer tryouts are Tuesday and Wednesday from 3:15-4:30.  If you make the team, practices will start on Thursday.  Tryouts for the A Girls Volleyball team will be on Monday from 3:15-5:00.  B team tryouts will be on Tuesday.  Practices start for both teams on Thursday.  All participants need to have a completed athletic permission slip packet submitted to be able to try out.  Also, for those athletes that get dismissed from school at 2:35, you need to go to the After School Program until 3:00.  No exceptions.  Also getting started this week is Mr. Rod’s Music classes.  Band will begin tomorrow morning at 7:30 in the Music Room.  Choir will begin Tuesday before school.  For students interested in music, there will be a Music Information Night for parents in the gym Tuesday evening from 6:00-7:00.  Mr. Rod will be there to go over the different music program offered to students so if you are not in music but want to be, check out that meeting.  Okay, I am running out of time but we do have a Girls Inc. information meeting at lunch on Wednesday in the VAPA Room.  We will be introducing our Girls Inc. plans for this year and there will be Root Beer floats so swing by.  Also, don’t forget that the Web Store is open until September 5th so check it out on our web site or on our Facebook page.  That’s it for me.  Thanks for your time.  It’s a great week to expect the best.  GO COUGARS!
