A message from GRANT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DISTRICT

Dear Grant Families,

All Superintendents and appropriate school staff participated in a meeting with Dr. Karen Ramstrom, Shasta County Public Health Officer, and Brandy Isola, Branch Director for Public Health for an update of the Coronavirus and its effects on schools. The meeting with Shasta County Public Health resulted in some universal decisions that are being made countywide. A letter is attached that will be sent to parents through the schools addressing the effect on schools from the virus. I will summarize the guidelines we will be following to give you information on how we plan to proceed as a school.

School events will be categorized in two areas: Essential and non-essential.

Essential school events include the school day, preschool and daycare

Non-essential events include indoor sports, field trips, and community events.

Essential events will follow the School Guidance on Novel Coronavirus document published by the CA Department of Education and the CA Department of Public Health. See School Guidance pdf. attachment. We are currently in Scenario 1.

Non-essential events will follow the Gathering Guidance pdf document published by the CA Department of Public Health.

In summary, we will be holding school, preschool and daycare unless an outside agency (Shasta County Department of Health or CA Department of Ed) requests that we close.

Non-essential events will be postponed or cancelled. These guidelines will be in effect through spring break, though this timeline is subject to change.

Here are some key points we thought you want to know that are custom to Grant school:

-Maintenance will continue to clean/disinfect highly used surfaces daily.

-Students will be sent home from school if they have a fever, vomiting (current protocol) and have excessive (uncontrollable) coughing (new protocol for the Coronavirus).

*Parents, please keep students home from school if they have a fever. Please ensure students are fever free for 24 hours before returning to school.

-Students will be guided to wash hands on the way to and from lunch and recess. Hand

Sanitizer will be used in addition to hand washing.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. However, we appreciate your flexibility and understanding while we follow the Public Health Department’s recommendation to keep our students and community safe.

We are currently postponing non-essential activities that are scheduled before Spring Break.  This includes but not limited to:

Beauty and the Beast Musical (Rescheduled for May 22-23)

Sports- 4/5 basketball, baseball, softball, tennis (TBD)

Field Trips- All field trips scheduled on dates before April 6

8th Grade Fundraiser- (TBD)

Preschool Performance- (TBD)

Parent Group Meeting Locations (TBD)

Mr. Effa
